Acer Swift 3 Thin Laptop Review | Tech Orbes

The Acer Swift 3 Thin Laptop performs better than comparable laptops in its price range despite being a low-cost device. The Swift line illustrates that just because a machine has a low price tag doesn’t mean it can’t be a reliable computer, in contrast to most cheap laptops that only offer a barely adequate computing experience.

Even the greatest inexpensive laptops, such as the Acer Swift 3, have more restrictions than their more costly siblings. However, it has also outperformed its predecessor in terms of performance and battery life while maintaining the same pricing.

The Swift 3 won’t exactly replicate what we observed in our evaluation of the Dell XPS 13. But it will bring you rather darn close for a lot less money.

The Swift 3 is a great option if you want the Ultrabook form factor for a great price, especially if you have a tight budget. It has maintained its position in our list of the best laptops for a reason, and as long as it is still available for close to its MSRP, it will probably stay there for some time.

Design

With the Acer Swift 3 from this year, Acer maintained its basic design concept. The thin, light aluminum chassis, unmistakably inspired by the Apple MacBook Air, should be recognizable to users of previous Acer Swift 3 models.

About as striking as the laptop gets is the matte-silver finish with a polished Acer logo on the back, and – for some people – that’s precisely what they want. Naturally, the personality will have to come from you.

With dimensions of 12.6 x 8.5 x 0.6 inches and a weight of 2.7 pounds, the Swift 3 is lightweight without seeming flimsy. Our cat brought the open, running laptop down from a three-and-a-half-foot tall desk onto a hardwood floor and bolted it, leaving no obvious or perceptible damage to the exterior or the internals of the laptop.

Instead, she grew tired of the box and investigated the power line. It’s reassuring to know that there’s a chance the Acer Swift 3 will endure in the real world, even though it’s not in any way advised as a test to run on your PC.

Speaking of opening it up, the island-style keyboard has snappy chicklet keys and a fingerprint scanner with Windows Hello functionality. The keys are adequately spaced for a laptop of this size, and the black keys are illuminated with soft white LEDs for improved visibility, even though some users may find the keyboard a little crowded.

The trackpad is a reasonable size and performs well when used in normal situations. It also performed admirably during brief PC gaming sessions like Stellaris and Civilization VI, but you’ll need a different mouse or controller for longer games.

In terms of ports, Acer Swift 3 is equipped with an HDMI port, a headphone/mic jack, USB 2.0, USB 3.0, and a USB-C Thunderbolt 3 port. There isn’t an optical drive or SD card port, but it is pretty standard for an Ultrabook these days.

Performance

We’re happy to report that the Acer Swift 3 has significantly improved over last year’s model after running it through a battery of benchmark tests and testing for its CPU, GPU, and other components. There aren’t many issues with the Acer Swift 3 regarding playing videos and everyday use.

The Swift 3 handled running the famously resource-hungry Google Chrome with twenty tabs open without a hitch, even when one was running an Udemy course and another had a Slack channel open.

When trying to run numerous tabs with many advertisements, the system appeared to struggle a little, but this is true of most systems, and, in reality, the issue is more widespread than just a single Acer laptop.

The Acer Swift 3 2020 handled some light gaming through Steam without any issues and maintained a steady frame rate through the middle of a Stellaris game. However, when the end-game crisis arrives.

The Intel UHD Graphics GPU is forced to track 200+ corvettes and destroyers weaving between a few dozen capital ships firing lasers and fusion torpedoes, the fans will start to run, and you will notice a noticeable decrease in responsiveness.

For a device with 8GB of RAM, the Swift 3 handled the creation of multimedia content fairly effectively. With about a dozen open files, loading Photoshop and performing simple photo editing went without major hiccups.

Other Features

Although the Acer Swift 3 (2020) is an inexpensive Ultrabook, it does have a price. When we first received the Swift 3, it had a fair amount of bloatware, but nothing that a ten-minute search of the Windows Control Panel’s app management tool couldn’t remove.

The webcam and integrated microphone are both useful yet underwhelming. Both are inadequate for teleconferencing using Zoom or a comparable service for business purposes, but neither is sufficient for Twitch streaming, professional YouTube broadcasting, or anything similar.

Product Testing

We’re happy to report that the Acer Swift 3 has significantly improved over last year’s model after running it through a battery of benchmark tests and testing for its CPU, GPU, and other components.

Similar to older models of the Swift 3, the Swift 3’s battery life in our test, which looped a 1080p video, lasted for 7 and 6 minutes. However, in the PC Mark 10 battery test, the Swift 3 ran in performance mode for 6 hours and 12 minutes with a balanced power profile and achieved a full eight hours in modest battery-saver mode.

Final Summary

Although ultrabooks have traditionally been more expensive laptops, the Acer Swift 3 intends to make a high-quality ultrabook more accessible to a larger, more cost-conscious customer. In this regard, it has undoubtedly been successful.

The Acer Swift 3 Thin Laptop is one of the most portable laptops available now, thanks to its small size and low weight, making it perfect for students rushing around campus or independent contractors on the go. Although not nearly as well-made as the MacBook Air, it’s not impossible that, with a casual glance, the Acer Swift 3 may pass for the latter.
